James Cook university hospital recently announced the following message
The paediatric spinal team at James Cook are delighted to receive a donation of £3,000 raised by patient Lois Mackey.
The inspiring 16 year old from Yarm School braved the chilly temperatures of the annual Redcar Boxing Day dip in the North sea, where the estimated temperature was believed to be about 9.5C (49F)!
Lois wanted to thank the staff on the ward for their support following her procedure for scoliosis, just over two years ago.
Cheryl Honeyman, specialist nurse for paediatrics said “We are very grateful to Lois for choosing to support us, for the donation and it will be used to benefit young spinal patients at all stages of their surgical journey.
"The £3,000 will allow us buy a whole host of fantastic items which will make a real difference to our patients including an interactive patient IPAD, a comfortable wheelchair, which will be used for post-operative patients being seen in the X-ray department, as well as having a real benefit to our paediatric surgical ward and intensive care unit, as we can also purchase a tilting bed, TV stand, a length measuring mat and an oxygen saturation monitor.”
