Adam shines as students Fall
Adam Fall produced an outstanding performance as Marton held onto secure 3 points in a touch game against the Newcastle students
On a cold wet afternoon Marton resisted a late comeback from the students to secure 3 points and stretch there unbeaten run to 5.
Starting the game in a downpour was just what Marton needed and the took the game to Newcastle from the first minute pushing the students back deep into their 23 and forcing some early chances.
The students where always dangerous on the break and some last ditch tackles meant Adam in goal didn't have a great deal to do.
First goal came from a great piece of play from 4 Marton players, each only touching the ball twice before the ball was in the back of the net. Adam Fall played a short pass into Chris Weaverall posting up in front of the defender, a quick stop and pass back to Richard Brown who played the ball into Geoff Simpson's path, 1 touch and the ball was hit into the D deflecting off a defenders stick into the back of the net.
More attacking play saw Marton force a couple of short corners which forced the keeper into a couple of saves before a period before half time saw Marton panic a little in possession giving the ball away too much, but some good defending saw us go into the half time with a 1-0 lead.
We talked about keeping possession and winning the 2nd tackle and this worked well in the first 20 mins of the 2nd half we us going into a 3-0 lead with goals from Richard Brown and Carl Worrall.
Two defensive lapses in the last 10 mins made the game interesting as first Phil Henderson and then Adam Bellerby gifted the students 2 opportunities which where finished well, but the Marton lads showed good determination to hold out for a deserved win.
