Matlock U13s were unlucky to be beaten in the dying seconds of an equally matched game.
Southwell 17 v Matlock 12
With Matlock yet to beat Southwell it was lining up to be a classic as the sun shone down in Nottinghamshire. Matlock took the lead through a good forward play that opened up the opportunity for Andrew Eastwood to score under the post, Sam Page added the two to make it 0-7. Good defence from both sides until a missed tackle allowed the home side to score and level the points.
Second half started as the first finished with Eastwood breaking tackles to score in the corner unfortunately it was not converted this time. Matlock gave all the pressure with George Healy just being held up over the line. Southwell won their line out and made a bad pass to the fly half which dragged two Matlock players in, however Southwell managed retrieve and ship out to the backs leaving the Matlock defence open to score in the corner. With the game at 12 all it was anyone's game with Southwell finally scoring in the corner just on full time to steal it. Good effort by all the boys maybe the better side were unlikely to have lost...next season will be different.
