Another frustrating result for 1st team

1st Team 19 – 25 Ashbourne
This was another frustrating loss for the 1’s. It was a close game throughout with the teams trading scores and Matlock tries scored by Tim Taylor, Chris Atkinson, and a penalty try following a strong scrum on the 5 metre line which put Ashbourne under huge pressure. Unfortunately results aren’t going Matlock’s way due to small margins – so more hard work on the training ground this week will hopefully see recent fortunes change in our favour.

2nd Team 14 – 39 Sutton Bonnington

3rd Team 17 – 38 Ashbourne

Colts 31 – 22 Dronfield
This was a great away result for the Colts grinding out the win in the last ten minutes up the slope! Awesome work rate from all the lads – congrats on the win!

U16 38 – 24 Mansfield (played Wednesday evening)
This great win had both forwards and backs in equal measure taking and securing the ball at the breakdown – enabling more backs play out to the wings to get the crowd roaring in appreciation! Two of the scores started from our 22, with driving runs bamboozling the opposition with great footwork. Charlie took backs player of the match with his kick-off ball catch running in under the posts! A great evenings rugby all round with a mix of experienced players and new starters.

U14 7 – 22 Stoke
Matlock started slow and conceded an early try which prompted them to start playing much more aggressively – Henry Frost must receive particular praise for his breakdown effort and steals. The second half had a similar start, allowing Stoke to score 2 quick tries, but again the boys regrouped and moved the ball nicely allowing Jack Crapper to take a pass on the Stoke 22 ad run in for the try. It was a superb match to watch, a highly physical game where the scoreline didn’t reflect the game. Congratulation to man of the match Colin Wilson!

U13 6 – 2 Dronfield (tries)

The U13s produced a fine display of rugby – great interlinked passes, everyone tackling well, and all clearing out at the rucks. After an enjoyable game of rugby, Matlock came out winners.

U12 beat Chesterfield & Rugely
Building on last week, the boys played vert well and ran out comfortable winners in each game they played. Highlights of the morning were a couple of tries where the ball went through 3 or 4 pairs of hands to create walk-ins on the wings. Still work to do on scrummaging and the breakdown, but overall a positive performance!

U11 3 – 1 Chesterfield (games)
Matlock U11’s took on Chesterfield. It was really good to play a club with similar numbers, which enabled everyone to get plenty of game time. Matlock eventually came out on top, in part due to their strong tackling and excellent passing. A nice moment came at the end when Chesterfield players, having been competitive but just losing the game said “that was a brilliant match and great fun!”

U10 v Chesterfield
Due to a similar number of players from both clubs, we were able to have 2 games running. Both Matlock teams were on form with some great tackles and strong rucking. Further work is needed on passing out to the wings, but all in all it was a brilliant morning!

U9 v Chesterfield
Another fantastic turn out for the U9s who fielded 4 teams against Chesterfield. There was lots of strong tackling on display again, and a focus on running fast straight lines led to some great tries for both teams. Well played everyone!

U8 v Chesterfield
The U8s divided into two teams to play a carousel of games. All games were highly competitive and fun. Everyone worked hard at the speed off the line, and there was some great passing and running in attack. Player of the week was Billy for his much improved passing and tagging!

The Girls had a great training session with lots of contact after a disappointing cancellation from Chesterfield. They are now match read and raring to go for their fixture next week against Amber Valley and Derby!
