1st Team lose to top of the league

1st Team 19 – 38 Melbourne
The Blue Boys had a frustrating afternoon at league leaders Melbourne. Injuries to James Fairclough and Dan Hooton in the first 20 minutes did not help the cause. But it was Melbourne’s ability to maintain high intensity and stay onside with the ref that gave them the edge over Matlock – and the scoreline was boosted by giving away too many kickable penalties. The result keeps Matlock third in the league but unfortunately opens up the gap between them and Melbourne to 9 points.
Congratulations to James Fairclough for his 100th appearance for the 1's...and wishing a speedy recovery :)

2nd Team 17 – 22 Melbourne

U16 12 – 66 Paviors
Paviors kept a steady backline fed with wide ball to take too many tries down the wing. Matlock had a reduced side due to the holidays and showed a need for improvement on their communication and defensive organisation. Full team will be back next week hoping to make amends.

U13 beat Ashfield
Matlock started strong running in tries from out wide, and the scrum is showing improvement week on week. At half time, the teams mixed up to help out Ashfields’ low numbers, but Matlock continued to dominate with everyone contributing, and tries coming from both forwards and backs.

U12 17 – 3 Ashfield
The U12s played out of their skin and got a well deserved 17-3 victory!

U11 beat Ashfield
The U11s took on a well drilled and strong Ashfield side that had a good kicking game. A number of early errors allowed Ashfield a bit more of the ball in the first half which they edged. However, once those errors were eradicated Matlock had a much more dominant second half and late on, the fresh legs gave Matlock the win.

U10 beat Ashfield
The U10s put on their best performance of the season against a physical Ashfield side. The defensive display was fantastic resulting in a clean sheet in the first half and a fair few tries for Matlock. In the following games, Ashfield found their feet and got a couple of tries, but Matlock remained strong with great turnovers, strong defence and plenty of tries.

U9 v Ashfield
With only 4 Ashfield players, a few of the Matlock squad were happy to swap clubs for the morning. The teams rotated, all playing several games each. Huge enthusiasm from the squad as ever!

U8 v Ashfield
The U8s split into a combined Barbarians team to play a carousel of games with the Ashfield team. All our players got stuck into defence and attack. Oli was chosen as Player of the Week for great work organising the defence!
