Momentous day for Matlock Ladies!

1st Team 54 – 12 Ilkeston 1st XV

This was a hugely entertaining game with Matlock putting together some sublime passages of play leading up to some great team tries. Matlock were thoroughly deserving of the margin of victory. The team performance owed much to the teamwork ethic, the hard work on the training ground, as well as bags of individual flair and strong leaders on the pitch. It also reflected Matlock’s history as a family club with three sets of brothers in the match day squad. Congratulations to Harry Morton on his 50th appearance for the first team.
Try scorers: James Young (2), Mike Allen (2), George Whittaker, Harry Morton, Rob Glover, Tom Cruttenden. Tom Morton converted 7 out of 8.

2nd/3rd Team 57 – 17 Ilkeston Development Team

Another high score for Matlock with a well-deserved win for a combination of the 2nd and 3rd team. It was a strong confrontational performance by the forwards and clever and skilled finishing by the backs. Man of the Match went to Joe Thompson.

Colts 29 – 29 Coalville

Matlock Colts first match of the season was an away fixture at Coalville. Limited numbers for both teams resulted in a 13-a-side match, creating more space on the pitch and plenty of tries. It was a close game with the lead constantly being traded between the teams, so a draw was a fitting result.
Try scorers: Ash, Jake, Jack B, Mark, penalty try

Matlock Ladies 0 tries – 6 tries Buxton Ladies

It was a momentous day for Matlock Ladies who played their first ever match against an experienced Buxton team. For 16 ladies in the squad it was their first competitive game of rugby! All 18 of the team played really well and were unlucky not to score at least two tries after some periods of superb rugby. The future looks bright for this team and all ladies should feel very proud of their efforts!
