Sunday Mornings 10:30am.
At Under 9, players are moving on from playing tag rugby to the world of contact rugby, where they are allowed to actually tackle the kid with the ball for the first time!!
This is the only contact they will do at this age, so thay can have loads of fun perfecting their skills in this vital area of the game.
Be warned though - cuddles with your rugby playing youngster will never quite be the same again!!
And whilst you're down here supporting your pride and joy, don't forget to visit the clubhouse for a hot drink and a freshly made bacon or sausage butty!! Yum!
Now the the boring stuff:
1) Your child must have a gum shield and wear it during the match/training session. These can be purchased in sports shops or online.
2) We recommend that your child keeps their finger nails as short as possible so that there are no unnecessary injuries during tackles.
3) Head gear (scrum caps) can also be worn and may offer additional protection during tackles, but scrum caps are not necessary at this age.
For home and away matches, Matlock RFC provides a rugby jersey. Your child will be issued with club socks upon payment of a yearly flexible subscription fee and registration with the club that includes insurance.
We normally start training at 10:30 on Sunday mornings. Home matches by visiting teams usually kick off at the same time. An earlier start is usually required if we have an away match or tournament to attend.
