Attitude is the key
Tough game with Haliford
Mayford Panthers 4 – Haliford Colts 5
By Neil Smithson, Saturday 17th December 2016
Unfortunately the Panthers cup involvement came to an end against Haliford Colts in a close run 5-4 match on Saturday morning. Panthers started the game strongly with a fantastic passing move from kick off, probably 10-15 passes, creating an early chance, but against the run of play found ourselves 2-0 down. We battled back to 3-1 down at half time but were always chasing the game. With another 5 minutes I think we would have got back on level terms, but unfortunately the final whistle came too soon for the comeback to be complete, just going down by the odd goal. Special shout out to Evan in goal who made some excellent saves.
I do have to say something about a slight dip in the attitude of the boys today, sure I have the parents support. There was far too much griping at each other, pointing fingers of blame and throwing shirts down at the final whistle. I appreciate the disappointment of losing a cup match, but it was quite a job getting all the players back in to shake hands with the opposition, which should not be the case. Its good that the boys have the passion to win, and being disappointed when we lose is fine, but it’s all about channelling that disappointment. We are gracious when we win and gracious when we lose, and do both as a TEAM, not individuals.
Great that the Christmas meal and games came at just the right time to put smiles back on everyone’s faces. Merry Christmas one and all!
