Welcome draw to finish the year
A few short...
Mayford Panthers 5 - Carshalton Athletic Green 5
At the start of the day, I was worried because we fell down to 6 players (get well soon Bodhi), but thankfully, Daniel S stepped up despite a bad cough and played all game in goal (thank you Daniel). So we had 7 players, no subs and playing a decent team who played just like us with counter attacking football at a fast pace.
The game started with dominant play from our boys with the passes flowing and the chances were created, sadly, they took the lead with a close range finish. But the boys didn't get disheartened and instead, got an immediate reply through Sam. This happened every time until the score line was 3-3, with another goal from Sam and one from John. Half Time.
Second half kicked off, and it went back to the normal schedule with our boys creating more chances, hitting the post and shots being blocked on the line, however, eventually Sam scored his third on the day giving us the 4-3 lead with 15 minutes left. But roles reversed and Carshalton did what we were doing and they scored immediately through a looping shot which sneaked under Daniel's out-stretched arm, if Daniel wasn't surprised by the shot and he was set for it, Daniel could have saved it but it doesn't matter. 5 minutes remained and he got another chance with Josh smashing a volley in going 5-4 up. Annoyingly, Carshalton's best player scored a screamer from 20 odd yards out which Daniel had no chance saving. That's where the game finished 5-5!
Daniel S - Despite struggling through a pesky cough, Daniel played all game in goal and he made 6 or 7 cracking diving saves which kept us in the game. Their manager was said that Daniel was brilliant in goal and he should be played in goal more often. Well Done Daniel.
Dela - He started out wide but got a knock in the first half causing him to limp, so he played the majority of the game in defence and Dela didn't look out of position, managing their striker and created attacks from the back with his crisp passing. His reading of the game is improving and he is beginning to use his left foot more too which is promising. Well done Dela!
Denver - This was probably Denver's best performance in the black and orange!! Defensively Denver was sound and strong who won every tackle and then travelled forward with the ball and he played the simple passes. What I enjoyed the most was that when the ball was rolling off the pitch at the fast pace, Denver used to go for it and either kick it to the opponents or out for their throw but this time he shielded the ball out. Playing in the Jaguars has given him confidence and its clear to see. I spoke to him about simple mistakes after the game but in my opinion, he was the MAN OF THE MATCH. Well done Denver!
Josh - Starting in defence, Josh was strong and cleared the ball well, moving into left midfield, Josh was constantly running and tackling and making the supporting runs which gave us an outlet and that created chances. He got his well deserved goal in the end and at the end of the game he was shattered. Josh lost his positioning at times but he learnt that as he played. Rest up and well done Josh.
George - Our fast winger had a 2nd half of football today, he was a little quiet in the first half which we spoke about and he stepped up second half and showed us how good he really is, creating chances, running non-stop, getting shots in on goal and playing the simple passes. He lost his positioning as well at times but understands that he can't go and vacate his area to win the ball but that's the desire in him. Well done George!
Sam - Our hat-trick hero, 3 goals today from our central midfielder, going forward he was brilliant, needs to learn when to travel and when to play the quick 1-2 and not to walk back when attacks break down because that will put pressure on our defence but he was fierce in the tackles and he worked his socks off. At full time, he collapsed to the ground, he had given everything. Well done Sam!
John - Although John didn't score loads of goals today, John played his role very well with him holding the ball up and laying the ball off for the second man runs. He lead the line well closing the ball down and putting the opponents under pressure. Shots were on target and there is fire in is belly to score every week, it is great to see. Just like others, John needs to learn when to pass and when to travel instead of barging through the defence. Couple of chance to use his left foot when he didn't which lost us the ball, but he worked hard to win it back! Well done John!
Tough game but very very very proud of the boys! Carshalton's coach and parents all said that was the best game they had seen. Such an even game but very entertaining.Rest up and I hope you all have an amazing Christmas.
