MEDEN VALE 50 - LOWDHAM LIONS HMP 17

by

Welcome To The Lions Den

Meden Vale today played host to Lowdham Lions HMP in the NLD vase preliminary round at the welbeck miners welfare ground but it was Lowdham who had entered the lions den and came away with their tails between their legs despite a good performance from the HMP side.

Lowdham did start strong and had rugby experience in depth throughout the team, former mansfield colts and seniors made up a big percentage of the squad and the thought in peoples minds was that the new boys were not the underdogs but our very own Vale XV, however the first scrum set the tone and a heavy lowdham pack were marched back by Vales determined forwards and within seconds lowdham lost their hooker to injury.

Meden pressured lowdham in more ways than one and forward pressure linking with a fantastic display from the vale back line saw the team edge closer to their first try, converted by Jake Mason. This was a game that was very much one way as Vale were determined to keep the pressure on for 80 minutes, Vales forwards worked hard and supported what was probably the best performance put in by the back division all season. Everyone worked hard and converted pressure into points, a total of 8 trys and five conversions were provided by Vales forwards and backs. Vale did allow lowdham to stay within touch in the first half but the second half was very much all Meden Vale, even when a further Lowdham injury meant uncontested scrums late in the second half and Vale's potent scrummaging force was neutralised. Meden were simply the dominant force and ahead of next weeks away league game to Ollerton this has given the side a massive confidence boost, they are sitting joint top of the league table with Boston on points and fired up for next weeks derby.

player coach liam slinn said "We are now ready to be a big player in the league and a cup performance like todays will need be to be bought to the field every time Meden Vale play, we've worked hard all season and training is working we have strenth in depth and can go far this season. I think everyone put their heart and soul into this game and I'm proud of that"
