Due to the later than first planned kick off time, Staines were down to 11 players. Rather than borrow the offered players from the Dragons Staines wanted to stick with their 11 so the Dragons agreed to an 11 a side game.
The Dragons took full advantage from an early Titans mistake when the ball was knocked on from the kick off. From the resulting scrum loose forward Oscar Wells
broke the first line of defence to race away for the first score which was excellently converted by Jack Bloomfield
from out wide.
The Dragons welcomed back two returning players for their debut for this season, winger Reuben Murdock-North and hooker Sam Crean
and it was Sam who scored the next unconverted try with a fine solo effort. The Titans hit back with two converted tries of their own before another unconverted try for Crean and a try under the posts for prop Anthony Parish
converted by scrum Half Lewis Hollidge
gave the Dragons a slightly flattering 20 to 12 half time lead.
A clever kick off bouncing into touch deep in the Dragons half gave the Titans a scrum with a great position to attack from and they took full advantage scoring from the next play and converting the try. After both sides cancelled each other out for a while with some fine defensive work the Titans eventually found the gap to break away and despite the try saving tackle on the line by Crean the Titans scored from the next play to take the lead for the second time in the match. The Dragons responded brilliantly with an unconverted try for winger Josh Lamb after a great solo break and a score under the posts for Hollidge which he converted himself. With the subs keeping the Dragons fresh they pulled away towards the end of the match with a fine team try finished by fly half Jack Bloomfield
and another for Hollidge with a scoot from close range, both tries were unconverted meaning the final score was a 38 – 22 win for the Dragons.
Pleasingly for the coaches and spectators the Dragons grew steadily more confident in defence and attack throughout this match and are looking forward to hosting league leaders Croydon the very tough first round cup draw next week.
