Croydon had already beaten the Dragons at home in the league and by a convincing score line so the Dragons knew nothing short of a very good performance would do if they hoped to stay in the Cup competition.

In the league match Croydon made a great start scoring 3 unanswered tries in the first 10mins. The Dragons were determined to make a better start this time and took the came to Croydon right from the first whistle. The Dragons dominated the possession and territory for the first 15mins and despite squandering 4 or 5 really good scoring chances they still ended the spell 8 to nil up thanks to two unconverted tries scored by Scrum Half Lewis Hollidge. Croydon came back into the game at the end of the half and showed why they are on top of the league when they crossed the line after a fine solo break, fortunately for the Dragons the ball was knocked on over the line meaning the Dragons went into the break still leading 8 nil.

The second half saw a reversal of the roles with Croydon applying the pressure for long spells, scoring two unanswered tries of their own and crucially converting one to give them a 2 point lead. The second Hurricanes try was scored with only 8mins left but despite the short time and tiredness setting in the Dragons impressively lifted their game forcing the turn over and getting good field position from their set of six tackles. With great defensive work another turnover was gained and after 3 determined runs a quick play the ball gave Centre James Batey the room needed to use his pace and race into the corner to score with a good finish under pressure. A great way to cap your debut game after an impressive all-round performance from James. Once again the conversion was missed so just 2 points divided the teams with 3mins left to play. Both sides gave away possession and forced turn overs in a tense finish but the Dragons held on to secure the win, the final score being 12 -10 to the Dragons.

It was a very exciting game played very well and in the right spirit by both sides, if they both continue to play as well in the next rounds of the Cup and Plate both teams could go far in the competitions.
