The Magnificent Seven.
aka ‘The ones who’ll never sit again or alone,’ complete bike ride.
On Sunday 24th June, seven heroes set off for Whitstable to answer the call of oppressed oysters (and a pint or five), desperate to be rescued from the clutches of evil fishermen, knowing they would not all return.
Lead as ever by the cool blonde, Charlotte Yul Butler, she had assembled another team of daring doers, to add to the thousands of pounds raised over the years, for your club. Stand up (hopefully you can now) and take a bow: Rob O’Brien (Wheelchair Team), Adam Barnett (Wheelchair and First Grade), Connor O’Grady (U16s), Eddie Baldwin and Graham McManus (Masters) and Trevor Barnett (U9s Coach). But any all star cast is only as good as the supporting cast, and Phil Wells deserves an Oscar (he’s already got one – ha! ha!) for providing and driving the support vehicle.
Weather-beaten, covered in oil, wearing shorts inside-out…they rode for one another and for you and your club, and are living proof that there’s no ‘I’ in ‘team’ which does indeed stand for ‘together everyone achieves more.’
If you see them, thank them. They did it for you and your club. Go one better, and put your hand in your pocket or purse and give them what you can.
