The new playing structure for Primary Rugby League in London is launched at Medway Dragons on Saturday 08 June 2013. Ground-breaking changes are here !

Brian McDermott, Medway Dragons RLFC Vice President, has given his backing to the new Primary Rugby League initiative.

The Leeds Rhinos Head Coach was speaking at a recent pilot project launch at Headingley where the new concept was introduced to clubs in the city.

“This is really good, it’s been needed for a long, long time” said McDermott.

“Coaches and parents can make it for too intense for the kids to enjoy it and that can lead to them just walking away.”

“If we’ve got an RFL scheme that sees things like small-sided games that’s just brilliant, it’s needed to happen for years.”

The RFL initiative – which sees the different age groups play with reduced team numbers with no match officials or coaches on the field of play – has already been launched in Hull and Cumbria as the RFL works with Leeds Metropolitan University to implement a new playing structure with the aim of giving every child a fun and enjoyable experience of the game.

The first Primary Rugby League Festival in the new format as part of the London RL Primary Programme is at Medway Dragons on Saturday 08 Jun 13 as part of the Medway Rugby League Stampede
