What do 360+ females have in common? It would seem they all enjoy playing rugby at Melbourne RFC

Sunday 10th May the Minxes celebrated their 5th All Female Rugby Event in style as they watched 360+ female players running around their pitches. The decision was made to move the event from Chellaston Academy to Cockshut Lane as they hoped that the option of camping would increase their numbers and allow them to meet and play with other sides from further a field. This option had the desired effect with 150 attending the live band and food Saturday night which went down very well. "Agent Utah were amazing last night which helped to create a great atmosphere for everyone and helped us to set the tone for the following day" Nick Woodland, Head Coach. The event was supported by around 20 clubs from across England, Gary Rudkin and Simon Boyd from the RFU, Wendy Earp from the Melbourne Parish Council and David Smith the Club President along with several others from the community. "I have been fortunate enough to have the full support from the current Mini, Junior and Minxes Chairman Nick Brown and past chairmans to really push the Minxes in our desire to get more females playing" said Woodland. "What is even better is that, as you can see from today, i have the backing of the parents and players, without either of them this event wouldn't have been able to have been put on so they deserve so much credit".

The Minxes were also joined by Laura Keates, the Womens World Cup Winner, who they currently sponsor and who was impressed to see such an event compared to when she was playing for her local U15s. "We want more players in our shirts but we also want teams to play so this event offers a great chance for all clubs to use it as a recruitment event. Having the ladies sides here we hope to inspire a few ladies to come along to Tuesday night sessions. It will consist of some fun and fitness wrapped up in a touch rugby environment over the summer with an aim of running a ladies side in the not to distant future" Said Woodland.

The Minxes are have already announced next years date as they look to increase the numbers again and would like to invite anyone looking for a great way to finish the season to make contact with them. "We don't run the event to make loads of money so we spend everything that we have to put on an affordable event and we will do the same next year. It's all about showcasing the female side of this beautiful game that we love so much and gives so much to those who play it"
