Melbourne's latest recruit ...welcome to the Green & Gold family

Melbourne RFC are delighted to appoint Sophie Edwards as their new lead physiotherapist. Following a highly competitive recruitment and interview process Sophie was the standout candidate and has agreed to join the green and gold team.

Director of Rugby Matt Derbyshire stated, " Sophie was one of a number of high calibre candidates to express their interest in the lead physiotherapist position. We had a huge gap to fill with Charlotte leaving this season, but we have been so fortunate to find and appoint Sophie and also having had Charlotte's full assistance and support in recruiting her replacement."

Sophie has a BSc (Hons) degree in Sport and Exercise Therapy from Leeds Beckett University. During Sophie's time at University she undertook a wide range of placements gaining valuable knowledge and skills that made her a stand out candidate during a recent recruitment drive.

Sophie has experience ranging from clinical work to hydrotherapy, from visiting the Ministry of Defence Rehabilitation Unit to working with professional sports teams.

Two of Sophie's placements included working with Leeds Rhinos Rugby League club and Yorkshire Carnegie Rugby Union club, her experiences with these highly competitive clubs, amongst others, have sculpted the practitioner that she is today and given her the desire to continue to follow a career in rugby union.

Sophie is passionate about fitness. She has completed both level 2 and level 3 in personal training qualifications. This additional knowledge aids Sophie's practice in injury prevention and treatment, often being utilised during exercise prescription and rehabilitation programmes.

Sophie is eager to ensure continuous professional development and keeps up to date with latest research including attendance at K-Taping courses and sports medicine and Injury conferences.

Following her appointment by Director of Rugby, Matt Derbyshire and outgoing Head Physiotherapist Charlotte Doughty, Sophie said "I am extremely excited about the opportunity to join Melbourne RFC and I am looking forward to providing top class treatment, rehabilitation and advice, whilst leading the physiotherapy team and rehabilitation programme. I look forward to the start of the season and meeting everyone involved in the club."
