2011/12 SEASON COMES TO AN END!

2011/12 SEASON COMES TO AN END! image

The season comes to an end but what a season it has been. With our Under 7's moving upto Under 8's they have performed brilliantly throughout the season.

The winter league was a tough season with us playing in cold, rainy, windy conditions with the hail stones battering the legs of our boys on one occasion. However, the boys continued to impress with the excellent attitude and desire to play lovely pass and move football. The winter season finished with us ending in mid table position in a very high standard league of teams.

Then we entered the Hightown Spring Cup and played fantastic in the group stage and reaching the semi final. This was a very close game at Formby FC that saw us go into extra time against a good Cobra side. From the half time break in normal time we dominated the game but it wasn't to be and the eventual cup winners beat us 2-1.

Then we played in the summer league and some of the football had us all pinching ourselves at the standard that our boys were playing. Once again we reached another semi final only to lose to a good Litherland Blue side.

We have played at the Liverpool FC Academy twice giving them very good matches that are boys should be proud of.

We have played in the Churchtown Tournament and again reached the semi final going out on penalties.

We then played at the Wigan tournament and the boys were fantastic running out as the winners of the Under 8's group against teams from across the North West.

Then our last tournament at Hawarden in Wales. The boys lost their first game but then went onto to win 2 and draw 2. Unfortunately this wasn't enough as the rules were not the normal rules and another team ended on the same points due to a 2 point rule for a score draw. This left us both on the same goal difference and even though we won the head to head they had more goals scored so we were out.....narrowly. However the boys had a great day, especially Danny who had plenty of inflatables to take home.

Then we had the introduction of our Under 6's team. Everyone at the club have really enjoyed watching the boys develop. The first game saw them all run after the ball, the wrong way on the pitch but we loved it. Then the work started and the boys started to really develop into a great little side. They have played teams who have been together for much longer and also older. They never gave up and their desire to enjoy it was fantastic. Both Neil and Frank have done a fantastic job and we will see the reward for the boys in the winter season.

I am very proud of every single boy that plays for the club at both teams and I would like to thank them all for the enjoyment that they have given us.

I would also like to thank every parent / supporter who come along to watch the boys. Without you this wouldn't happen.

We can all look forward to the presentation now as we celebrate a wonderful year at Melling Boys.

Thank you & best wishes,

Keith.

The boys have played some fantastic football over the season and they've done you proud Keith. The tournament at Wigan was a well deserved victory.

It's also been great to see the little ones playing.

    Can't wait until September.

    Well done boys.
