Alan Rousseau Game won by Longhursts

A beautiful evening at Mellor saw the inaugural games of the Alan Rousseau Memorial Cup.
The girls were divided into 2 houses - the Oldknows in red and the Longhursts in white
All our u12 girls had been invited. These girls played first - with some of our youngest players in the club. This first game saw some brave lacrosse by younger players and some very skilled lacrosse from older ones. Martha played in goal for first time and made 3 great saves. Lara made 4. The whites dominated from the start and ended first half 6 -1 up. The second half saw Holly from u18 come into goal but the whites maintained their lead and won 11 -4. Lucy scored most of the goals with an injured Annabel managing 2 and Matty 4. A very well done to Alice, Amelie, Jasmine and Katie M. Man of the match was voted for by the Rousseau family who after much difficulty gave the vote to Harley for consistently trying hard and excellent stick skills. Well done.
The second game was by the u18's a fierce and hard fought game from the off.
The reds dominated the first half and captain Alex for the whites used her not inconsiderable voice to shout up and encourage her team. To no avail the ends of the first half saw whites losing 7 - 1. A very brave Charlotte S had been in goal (for only the 2nd ever time) and made a few great saves. Goals had come from Abbie, Jess the Captain and Honor ,with 3 from Holly. Honor did a fabulous stunt role half way through the game and wasnt going to be stopped and charged on unperturbed. The reds looked like they had it in the bag.
The second half saw a big come back. Coach Matt was put in goals. Jen won most of the face offs for whites (but Aimee R saved 7 great goals for Reds). Sophie H and Miranda both scored 2 great goals for whites. Final score was 8 - 6 to reds.
So it was one game all............
A final 5 minute game was to be played with a starting score of 0 -0. The girls did a fantastic job of showing off their determinant to win and real Mellor spirit. At 4 mins 58 seconds Jen scored making the final winners the Longhursts (white).
Man of the match voted for by the refs went to Patsy - well done.
Helen C introduced Jacqui and Ellie Rousseau to the girls. Jacqui said that Alan would have been delighted by the show of spirit put on by the girls and it had been a wonderful evening. They went on to hand the cup over to the winning Longhurst captain Alex.
Thank you for all girls for 2 very fine games.
Thank you to the Rousseau family.
Thank you to the 2 refs Steve and Richard for your continued voluntary support of the girls teams.
Thank you to Toby and Paul for pitch marking and goal putting out -and away.
Thank you to Dave, Paul and Gill R for manning bar and last but not least to Helen C for all her continued support.

Going forwards all man of the match awards throughout the year will give points towards the girls houses - which they will stay in for all their lacrosse career. Managers and coaches can award discretionary points as they see fit and a final game will be played at the end of each season. Points will be added up and winners announced at futute presentation evenings.
