U14s rise to the challenge against an industrious Norbury Team
Boys come out top in a physical tussle in arctic conditions
On an extremely cold and blustery day the big rematch versus Norbury was upon us. Mellor started the first quarter with great determination and attitude. We had the majority of the possession but didn’t capitalise with goals. Jack Royle did score the first though after an assist from Jamie to ease any nerves. The quarter ended at 1-0 with plenty of missed chances hoping that it wouldn’t prove costly later on.
The second quarter was much the same with Mellor having the majority of the possession. Olly Plant scored following an assist by George before Norbury's best player (number 08) pulled one back. Mellor soon got their third goal after some quick moving and passing resulting in Jamie’s first goal. Norbury then got another goal to make it 3-2. Just before the half time whistle went Josh Myers got the ball near the sideline and unleashed a fantastic shot into the top corner of the net. Half time Mellor 4 Norbury 2.
The third quarter saw Norbury get the next goal making it 4-3 and then some good defensive play by both teams. The cold weather was starting to take its toll with fingers and toes now numb but Mellor didn’t stop running. Jamie then passed the ball to Jack Royle to score his second. End of third quarter Mellor still in the lead 5-3.
The final quarter saw Mellor capitalise on all their possession. Norbury were more interested in the physical side of the game after getting frustrated but Mellor kept their cool and scored 2 more goals. One goal by Olly to take his tally to 2 before Jamie got his second goal following a great move from one end to the other at pace.
This was a great all round team performance in challenging weather. It was sweet revenge for the cup defeat Norbury inflicted on us a few weeks ago. Final score 7-3 to Mellor.
