A strong start from Nelson saw them score an early try. However Merthyr regrouped and good lineout ball from Frank Williams, allowed Captain Luke Evans to drive over from 10 metres, bringing Merthyr level at half time.
Merthyr started the second half strong with Cory Donaghue unlucky not to score Merthyr's second, having made a fine run from his own half. Nelson quickly replied from the restart and ran in a try from close range. Good back work saw Merthyr take the lead 5 minutes from time, through a Sam Hall try and Dylan Williams conversion. However Nelson took the game to Merthyr and despite some solid defending from Merthyr, Nelson drove over on the final whistle to pinch the result.
