Away from Penydarren Park Dave served as a very respected Ward Councillor for Penydarren and was also a former Mayor of our town. At the Park, Dave has supported the Martyrs for many many years in several roles, many people will remember him as our P.A. Match Announcer and as with many announcers over various sports people always remember the humerous howlers made by the individual, my favourite was announcing a substitute for a visiting team whose name was very difficult to pronounce, not to be outdone Dave announced that the player No. 11 Joe Smith was being replaced by ???????? No. 14 whose name was not in the programme not realising that all who had bought a programme could see the name quite clearly.
Over the past years Dave was always present to greet visiting Directors and Guests to the Club in his capacity as a member of the hopitality team, and the number of friends that Dave has made over the years through the Football Club from visiting Clubs has been quite a number, and it was amazing especially during our previous years in the Southern League how many of our visitors made a bee-line to say hello to Dave before anyone else.
He will be sorely missed by his many friends at the Park and the condolences of the Club and its supporters go out to his wife and family.
Dave's funeral is today at the Parish Church Merthyr Tydfil at 1:30 pm, followed by cremation at Llwydcoed at 2:40 pm
