Gavin said the following:
“I’m aware that since being appointed there hasn’t been much information from me. It’s been an extremely busy time and we are making progress. I’m grateful to Scott for holding much of the reigns whilst myself and John were taking our summer break abroad.
In truth I’ve been inundated with requests to join the club. I think players recognise that this is a great non league club with fantastic facilities built on a solid foundation.
I have a clear aim. We are doing things differently than in previous seasons, we have to.
I’ve targeted what I believe are hungry players that want to play at this level, succeed and go on and possibly play higher. If you’re a young player, new to the club or already an existing part of the set up you must be thinking I’ve got a chance to build something here.
We’ve already got some good young players, some have still got learning to do but we’ll give them a chance. Some have already made a name for themselves, for others it maybe a bit early for them but nevertheless they’ve got a future at the club if they really really want it.
I’ve also looked to add experience and I’m pleased with where we are. There is still work to do and as management the team continues to work hard to fulfil our potential. I expect the players to match that drive and more importantly believe in what we are all doing.
I’m reluctant to announce signings just yet. These things can have a habit of biting you so when the time is right I’ll get some information published. This will include information on those leaving the club.
The club’s appeal regarding the FA restructuring wasn’t successful. I’m not surprised by this so we simply move on. There is no doubt the FA decision had a significant impact on player retention but that’s life. A new league presents fresh challenges and this is something we should embrace. It’s another chapter in the club’s history, we should all now be looking forward focussed on the job in hand.
We have a solid pre season program including a wide range of fixtures. For now we’ll go about our business quietly and prepare for the new season.”
The new season kicks off on Saturday 11th August with the fixtures expected to be released in Mid-July
