A good crowd gathered at the Talbot Athletic ground to watch the Ironmen claim their first Premiership title in their first ever season in the top flight.

Former Aberavon wing Richard Carter and Kyle Evans both crossed the whitewash for Merthyr with the prolific Matthew Jarvis kicking four penalties in the memorable 22-18 win.

It was a hugely tense final five minutes for Merthyr after they were reduced to thirteen men after two yellow cards but they held on to take the elusive first title.
