Family-run garage through and through
Since the 1900s Midhurst Engineering has been known as a reliable family-run garage. Originally founded by John Poate, he sold his well-loved garage to the Visick family who ran the business for generations. Midhurst Engineering is known for providing reliable services and repairs for customers in the area and is now owned and managed by the Morgan family providing MOT testing, servicing and repairs that keep customers coming back year after year.
115 years of motor services
Midhurst Engineering started off providing general and agricultural engineering, including servicing stationary engines. When the Visicks took control, they introduced the repair and sale of motorcars in 1926 as well as the sale of petrol. It was during this time that Midhurst Engineering established itself as a recovery centre for people in the area that had broken down or been in an accident.
Although they’ve removed petrol sales from the business model, Midhurst Engineering is still known for providing a wide range of reliable motor services. From MOTs and servicing to full roadside assistance, recovery and accident repairs, Midhurst Engineering has built up a reputation as a well-loved garage, customers can trust.

The Duke of Cumberland is a beautiful 16th century pub perched on the side of a hill with breath taking views. From the gardens, on a fine summer’s day, it’s just possible to see Leith Hill, the highest point in Surrey.
Today’s Duke still retains a lot of its original charm. Inside, there are flagstones, brick floors, wooden scrubbed tables and local ales served straight from the barrel. Outside, you will still find fresh trout in one of the many garden ponds.
Come and enjoy a meal, which will be prepared by our award-winning chef/owner Simon Goodman, and choose one of our award-winning real cask ales; wines, spirits, champagnes and soft drinks are also available from the bar to complement your meal.
Our aim at the Duke is to provide you with a peaceful haven in a tranquil corner of West Sussex away from the hustle and bustle of work and everyday life.
