Midhurst Rugby Club Under 12s visited Eastbourne on Sunday 14th January in the final pool match of the first phase of their Sussex RFU waterfall league.
Having battled to a hard fought 20 – 10 win at home to Uckfield, the week before, Midhurst found themselves lying top of a very tight table, by a single point.
Once again with distance providing no obstacle to the enthusiastic group, the U12s were able to field a full squad of sixteen players, captained once again by Oli Catt. The team were also delighted to welcome back regular scrum half Ross Seavill, following his recovery from injury.
On what was a very heavy going pitch Midhurst started brightly and appeared to quickly get the better of their opponents at the rucks and mauls, showing huge determination. Two early tries were scored which calmed the nerves and the boys quickly found their rhythm against an increasingly frustrated opposition.
By half time it was 20 – 0 to Midhurst following a series of blistering attacks from the blooming centre partnership of Charlie Steele and Hugo Ormerod.
After the break, with full Back Charlie Quilter finding his range with a series of defence splitting runs and subsequent passes, Midhurst began to spread the ball to the wide channels with more frequency and continued to score at a good rate, with further tries coming from wingers, Noah and Micah Campbell.
The final result was 40 – 5 to Midhurst.
