The Stags came flying out the traps and were immediately on the front foot

Midhurst 2 - 1 Mile Oak

Midhurst reserves chalked up another 3 points on Saturday after a hard fought and thoroughly deserved win over Mile Oak at the Rotherfield.
Centre-back George Hotston made his debut for the club as he seeks match sharpness following his arrival last week. First teamers Mark Broughton and Luke Sheldrick also added quality to the young side.
The Stags came flying out the traps and were immediately on the front foot against a side sitting 4th in the table. Midfielders Jay Sheldrick & Harry Tollworthy were dominating their opposite numbers and the pace and direct running of Monty Morgan was causing real problems.
Oak looked dangerous on the break with the wingers driving inside and creating opportunities. On 20 minutes they had a goal disallowed as the striker touched in a goal bound shot from an offside position.
From that moment on, Midhurst kicked on. Luke Sheldrick got into a couple of good positions and but for better decision making, could have set up a couple of goals. The break through did eventually arrive on 35 minutes as the ball found its way into the feet of Sheldrick who managed to turn in the box and squeeze a left foot shot inside the near post.
Midhurst were buoyant and pushed for a second before the interval. Monty Morgan narrowly missing out on a ball that flashed across the box.
The second half started differently. The visitors were stepping up their game and putting the Stags back line under pressure. They found Paddy Cowell in fine form as he denied the striker when through on goal.
The game became scrappy, with neither side in the assendency until the 75th minute, when a series of mistakes in defence, led to a chance and the striker slipped the ball under the on-rushing Cowell.
With the game locked and seemingly heading for a draw, a defence splitting pass from James Glue found Luke Sheldrick who fizzed in a cross that a hapless Mile Oak defender could only turn into his own net, which led to scenes of jubilation on the pitch and in the stands.
It was no more than the young Stags side deserved and the 3 points sees them move up to 6th in the Reserve Section.
