The Stags 2-1 Seaford Town

Another HUGE 3 points ensure that Midhurst finish above the relegation places

With this game being the most important in recent Midhurst history, boss Trevor Waller made a couple of changes following the previous home defeat. In came assistant manager Ian Saunders and Andy Newton in an attempt to provide extra experience in this young Stags set-up.

Seaford started this game the brighter using a direct approach into their front 3. Luckily both Saunders and Crawford won their headers ably assisted by skipper Sean Dummer and the re-juvenated James Glue in the full back positions.

Play was edgy as both teams knew what was at stake. The Stags took the lead midway through the first half when a pin point corner landed on the head of "veteran" Jamie Angell who calmly headed into the top right hand corner, much to the delight of the home fans.

The visitors upped their game and duly equalised when another long ball was missed by Crawford and the ensuing footrace between the visiting striker and the svelte like Saunders, only really had one winner and the striker cooly lobbed the ball over the hapless Williamson in goal.

Half time The Stags 1-1 Seaford

The Stags started the better of the 2 teams in the second half with half chances coming and going and the crowd had a certain edginess growing amongst them, however this feeling eventually turned to ecstacy when another Pearce cross found the onrushing Ben "goal machine" Crawford to help the ball over the keeper and score what turned out to be the winning goal.

The visitors again turned up the tempo but again their direct style found the home defensive unit scrapping for everything with Williamson rarely troubled. The referee almost spoiled the game with some strange decisions effecting both sides but luckily for us, in the end we earned these precious points.

Final score The Stags 2-1 Seaford Town

Man of the match Harry Menah: no goals but worked tirlessly throughout

Team: 1 Paul Williamson, 2 James Glue, 3 Sean Dummer, 4 Jamie Angell, 5 Ben Crawford, 6 Ian Saunders, 7 Ollie Pearce, 8 Ollie Rowland, 9 Harry Menah, 10 Mike Asare, 11 Andy Newton

Subs used: 12 Danny Walker and 14 Liam Dreckmann

A fantastic result in what was, in truth a scrappy game of football. These valuable points see the Stags finishing above the relegation places on paper, however with an ongoing ground grading issue looming the future is as clear as mud.

Next weeks hosting of Westfield is equally as important as this, with another 3 points being the priority. A win for us and some other favourable results could see the Stags finishing as high as 13th.
