A 9 goal swing in 2 weeks!
During the today's game, Bruce suddenly said to me 'tyre'. I thought 'what on earth is he talking about' until he mentioned the codeword. I had completely forgotten my own report of last week.
2 weeks ago, I never wrote a report at all. It was not just because we lost 9-0 (honest). The way the fixtures are organised, I sometimes don't find out until Monday morning who we are playing. When I saw we were returning to the scene of our defeat of 2 weeks ago, I had mixed emotions but I did think to myself that it won't be 9 this time. I thought we would run our opponents closer, but to turn around a 9 goal deficit in a short space of time is a pretty tough ask.
To gain a 1-1 draw but more importantly to take part in a competitive, even game was more than anyone could have expected. Since the last game here, the team has to adapt to the likelihood of not playing 3 at the back anymore, as we did for the whole of last season, and that we are not playing 3 up front either. It takes some adapting to, and we have only had a couple of training sessions to do so. To play as well as the players did today was some achievement.
Kaden - Bravely played as he has not fully recovered from this injury that sidelined him mid match 2 weeks ago. One particularly brilliant save.
Ben W - Late switch to right back and what a display! Outstanding and won so many tackles against much taller opponents
Daniel Pr - Captain for the day. Usual imperious performance until a worrying injury and he was heading for the hospital at the end. He is a great player and the whole team hope he is ok.
Spike - A real footballer, the way he plays his way out of trouble is especially impressive
Ben R - Consistent and reliable as always, and will certainly benefit from a back four. Excellent.
Daniel Pe - One of the players who had to change position and worked very hard in midfield, especially defensively
Billy M - Moved into midfield and was top class, capped by a wonderful goal. He will tell me I should have played him there ages ago!
Felix - Looks fully fit now and it is a pivotal part of our team so we suffered when he was carrying an injury. Great effort
Sonny - Really settling in well and looked very impressive in wide midfield. Great for us to have a replacement for Georgia
Sam - Sam really had some fire today and battled for very ball, often keeping the ball in their half for a long time as a result
Alex - Similarly fought for every ball, giving their defence plenty to think about and unlucky not to score in the second half
Richard - Has tried very hard to win a place and worked really hard when he was on
Callum - Make sure you know the kick off time! Too valuable for us to be without him when needed
Finlay and Billy I - unused substitutes. Finlay cheered the team on brilliantly and Billy is desperate to play. I wish I could name all 20.
Thanks to Nikki for doing the subs, Al for doing the line, Kev for his assistance and Paul who has done a notably brilliant job with the goalkeepers.
