In order to raise funds for the u12s, Milford took on a challenge that none of the Milford u12s rugby league players were looking forward to.....

Sponsored Baton Twirling, this certainly took the Milford players out of their comfort zone.

In order to raise the funds for their team, the players pulled together and performed Baton twirling for a period of over 1 hour ending with a blockbusting finale show. The team also sacrificed Wednesdays training in order to prepare for this event.

The new team is aiming to raise sufficient funds to buy a new kit for the 2012 season which commences in March 2012.

Alan Fairclough, one of the u12s coaches, states he is proud of our u12s voluntary parents team. Our team are certainly here for the kids. For example, Lesley, our fundraising manager, has within just 3 months, organised serveral fundraising innovations including a coach trip to Blackpool and now this Baton twirling event.

Alan states these activities are great, not just because they raise serious amounts of money towards the kids needed equipment, but because they encourage teamwork and give the kids challenges. Whilst we are all brought together through rugby we want to improve the kids experiences of teamwork with challenges. Todays challenge certainly put the kids out of their comfort zones and they responded superbly despite initial uncertainties.

Whilst we want the kids to improve at rugby, if we can improve their day to day life skills at the same time, then we will encourage this. Certainly with Lesley on board this is happening.

Whether we win or lose at rugby, the kids will enjoy their time at Milford and make some friends from which they can share lasting experiences with.

Keep it going Lesley and husband Noel (first aider, assistant coach and team bus driver)...the kids and us other volunteers appreciate your efforts.
