Hunslets first half performance was enough to see them through to the finals

It was a fine summers evening as both teams had to rely on strength in depth for this mid week cup Semi Final encounter. However, it was Hunslet Parkside that eventually had more petrol in their tank to win the match and progress to the final.

In the opening 20 minutes, Milford looked like they were going to the finals at Old Trafford. Set completion was high, errors were low and poor discipline by Hunslet allowed the penalties to flow. All was looking good at this point and despite missing an early penalty kick opportunity Milford scored the first try of the match after a short range James Coates try was converted. Parkside 0-6 Milford.

At this point Milford must have thought it could be their night as pressure was being applied and Hunslet relied on their defence to keep Milford at bay. As time went on Milford continued to add pressure the first glimpses of tiredness were apparent when last tackle kicks were being booted straight out of the pitch. This both relieved pressure and gave Hunslet easy yards back up the pitch from which they could lift themselves and initiate some attacking sets. From these handovers in generous positions, 2 Hunslet tries were scored as well as a drop goal to give Hunslet a 15-6 half time lead.

Early in the second half Hunslet scored within minutes to give Milford a mountain to climb at 21-6. As the game progressed deeper into the evening, both teams error rates increased and the ball was transferred more frequently than either of the coaching teams would have liked. After a day at work for most of these players it soon became apparent the team holding the lead would be in prime position to reach the finals - and that's exactly what Hunslet managed to do.

The result may not have gone Milfords way on the night, however, the crowd that turned up to support the team was fantastic. The majority of players and parents from all of our teams were there to cheer on Milford.

Both clubs would like to thank each and every support for making this semi final a night to remember for many good reasons whilst at the same time we wish rivals Hunslet Parkside good luck against Rochdale in the final. Completing a league and cup double would make 2016 a successful season on and off the pitch for the South Leeds based team.

This Saturday, Milford continue their own promotion push to the premier league this Saturday (2:30pm kick off) with another away match this time at the South Leeds based team Oulton Raiders.

All support will be welcome to give the team a final push in the final months of the 2016 season.
