After losing in a close encounter at Millom earlier in the season, this time Milford came out on top after another close game.

Milford got off to a great start in this must win game I believe that yesterday’s game was the biggest game for the club this season and that includes the Challenge cup game against Barrow with our 1st division status at stake, although this victory does not mean we are safe from relegation it helps when you beat a team below you in the table.

Like I said before we got off to a great start when Centre Matt Brocksom went over in the corner for the opening try with just 3 minutes on the clock Martin Loveridge added the conversion to give us a 6-0 lead. We kept peppering the Millom line and it was no surprise when we got our 2nd try on 13 minutes with the powerful centre Dave Watmough getting his first of 3 tries Martin Loveridge again added the goal to push us further ahead 12-0. 7 minutes later we were over the line again when prop forward Antony Ward scored right on the touchline ( not sure what a prop was doing there) But he did well to stay in the field of play to add to the Marlins score, this time Marlene was wide with his attempt at goal 16-0. The next 10 minutes was best forgotten I am not sure what happened but we lost the plot our defence began to fall off tackles also giving away silly penalties and our options were not good in both attack and defence. Millom reduced our lead to just 2 points in this period 16-14. This remained the score until half time.

The 2nd half was a repeat of the first with Dwaine McCrea scoring after just 5minutes of the restart and this was quickly followed by a 2nd Watmough try both goaled by Martin Loveridge 28-14. Then just like the 1st half we again took our foot of the gas and allowed th visitors back into the game with tries on the 60th and 70th minute both converted to give us a 28-26 lead going into the final 10 minutes . Both teams were now pushing for the victory and thankfully Dave Watmough struck again to complete his hat trick and also complete the victory for the Marlins Martin Loveridge rounded off the scoring with his 5th goal from 6 attempts. Fullback Josh Sunley took the MOM award on his 1st Team debut but he was hard pushed by centre Dave Watmough and Captain James Coates who also had good games
