Milford & Witley FC

M&W ladies was formed in early 1999 with the creation of a ladies section to the already successful mens' club.

Initially the Ladies trained and practised but didn't play any competitive matches until they were joined in the Summer of 2000 by the "remnants" of the Farncombe ladies team.

This group of about 8 dedicated young ladies had played at Farncombe from an early age but, under the Boys' club rules, could not continue to represent Farncombe beyond age 16 so they became "homeless."

Happily news got through of the existence of the M&W ladies section and the two groups joined together with Paul Sugden (Manager) and John Overington (Asst Manager) also joining from Farncombe.

Farncombe Ladies had enjoyed a reasonably successful 1999/2000 season in the South East Counties Womens Football League (SECWFL). With the move to M&W the Farncombe name was replaced with M&W for the beginning of the 2000/01 season.

The first season in Division 2 was a great success finishing 3rd. After another successful season finishing 4th the SECWFL was reorganised and M&W were placed in Division 1 West.

Over the years the team has performed well in each season highlighting in an appearance in the Chairman's Cup Final in 2008 where M&W narrowly lost 4-3 to the season's runaway champions of the premier division.

Performances in 2009/10 and 2010/11 improved, resulting in 3rd and 5th placed finishes, respectively.

The ethos of the Ladies squad has always been to enjoy the game, give 100% to supporting and encouraging one another, look to win every game but be gracious in defeat with a "never give up" approach.

We have enjoyed sponsorship over the years from Dappers dry cleaning firm and, for the 2011/12 season welcome sponsorship from the Leathern Bottle public house in Farncombe.

The club welcomes new players of 16 years upwards and we pride ourselves on making all newcomers feel at home. There is an active social life with events organised throughout the year.

We train on Tuesday evenings at 7.00pm either at The Burton Pavilion in Milford during the season or at the Witley Recreation ground pre-season.
