A Hard Earned Win To Close The Season
Millbrook went into the game knowing that a bonus point win could secure third place in Hampshire one if US Portsmouth slipped up against Petersfield and although Millbrook produced a comfortable win they had to in the end settle for forth.
Millbrook wanted to finish in style but were aware that New Milton on their day could beat any of the league sides. The outcome was however a five to one try victory. I t was also a sad occasion as Mike Cronin the barrelling centre would be playing his last league game as he will be moving to Australia in the summer. Long serving number eight Mike Mulcahy and lock Ratu Degie was also unavailable so Mike Trench and Ryan Jones replaced their positions respectively.
On two minutes Full Back Mark Colmer scored the first try following a poor kick by the opposition which was caught by flanker Wayne Allen who run it back and fed him and with a clever dummy he managed to out pace the New Milton defence from the half way line.5-0.On twelve minutes the now established scrum half Tom Colling scored the second try following a five metre scrum which was disrupted and pushed back by the forwards with Tom reacting the fastest.10-0.On fifteen minutes New Milton scored
their only converted try when their full back ran through several tackles from within his on half following a poor kick. 10-7.Millbrook continued to kick or give away possession putting them under pressure
and it was not until with twenty fifth minute that Millbrook scored next from a penalty by Captain and Fly-Half Richie Colmer in front of the post on the twenty two metre line for offside in the centre. 13-7.
A minute later an individual try from the same player cutting against the defence, outpaced them to score in the corner.

The second half continued as the first half with both sides desperately trying to make the gain line with both defences holding out, on fifty minutes a quickly taken Mark by Mark Colmer led to a break away who fed lock Ryan Jones who then cleverly released the prolific k winger Mike Rendell for Millbrook’s forth try which was converted by Mark Colmer. 25-7.During the second half all three replacements Aaron Race, Sonny Bedwell and Leon Brito were used to good effect and on seventy five minutes the last try was scored fittingly by centre Mike Cronin following several passages of play and converted by the same.
