A confident and reatively unchanged Wolves team travelled over to Bedford on Saturday and in the first few minutes of the game certainly rocked the Tigers with some ferocious tackling. However, Wolves sufferd an early blow when player-coach Scott Aspinall had to leave proceedings after only 2 minutes with a torn hamstring.

Sadly they were unable to maintain this level of intensity as the Tigers exploited a gap on the fringes of the Wolves defence and opened the scoring. Poor defence from the Wolves let the Tigers score their second try in quick succession to make the score 12 - 0 for the hosts.

The Wolves prevented Bedford from scoring a try in the corner with some excellent defence but on the next play the ball the Tigers scooted over from acting half and made the score 18 - 0. This spurred the Wolves on and the ball was spread along the line but the move broke down with a forward pass.

The Tigers were certainly on a roll and again they spread the ball to expose the compressed Wolves defence which resulted in 2 further tries. MK again tried to use their undoubted speed in the backs but it broke down with a dropped ball. Bedfod scored a further 2 tries before the half time whistle to take the score to 38 - 0.

The half time talk from the Wolves focussed on putting into place the tackling techniques that the coaching staff had worked on in training and retaining some pride in the performance of the team. A much more experienced Bedford team with a dynamic stand off tore into the Wolves early on in the second half and they scored 2 further tries to make the score 46 - 0.

The secret weapon in the MK Wolves' back line that is Michael Whitehead was finally unleashed from his own 20 metre area and ended up seconds later under the Bedford black dot to put some points on the board for the Wolves. He hugged the touchline and evaded countless Tigers' players as he burnt a path up the left wing.

This no doubt inspired the Wolves as they forced the Tigers into a knock on and then held their opponents up on the try line. However their debutant stand off again weaved his magic and played a part in a further 2 Tiger tries.

If there is one thing in the armoury of the Wolves it is never giving up and making their opponents pay. Despite the scoreline of 58 - 6 it was the Wolves who scored the last two tries of the day. First up was Kieran Perry who was on the end of a slick handling movement and scored in the corner with debutant Dady converting. Then Kieran McConnell went though a well made gap in the Tigers defence and scored under the black dot to make the final score 60 - 18 as James converted the try.

MK Wolves may have had it tough in their first 2 league games and the team certainly have had to get used to a more physically demanding game than they may have been expecting. Also on the plus side there were debuts for Mark Baxter, Paul Dady and Mark Tindall. Again John Marchbank showed what a class act he is becoming with Aaron McConnell toiling for most of the game in the forward pack.

Next up for the Wolves is a home game against the Bury Titans on the 26th with a 2.30pm kick off.
