Two Bonus Points in Broad Plain Thriller
Minch looked to put aside their cup disappointment of last week with an excellent showing at Broad Plain.
The game started with a knock on from the KO giving the Minch Pack the feed. From the scrum Minch attacked in midfield with some superb off loads and support play No 7 Matt Jenn's scored out wide. A series of kick chases, resulted in a Broad Plain throw in, stolen at the front by Minch they drove the ball up field. Quick ball and some powerful line breaks enabled skipper Sean Price to score from close out. Con missed 10 nil Minch on 14/mins. A period of Minch dominance ended with a penalty miss. Broad Plain executed a pre planned move to score out wide on 25 mins and boosted by their score the home side asserted maximum pressure. Repelled until the 38th minute when a lose pass and a fortunate bounce got Broad Plain level at 10 all. The Minch response was immediate, the kick off turned over, 6 hard fought phases lead to No 8 Will Pullen scoring,
The home side began the second half with aggression and they played quick ball using the big pack to drive over from close range. A lose kick in midfield and a rapid return from the home wing gave the lead away for the first time. 24-17, 44 mins. The game pattern remained the same both teams looking to move the ball at pace. For once the ball bounced on Minch side of luck and they broke up field. An interchange of passes and sweet line from No 13 Tom Goulding pulled Minch level on 50 mins. Broad Plain responded, putting the Minch defence under intense pressure. A clear knock on missed by the otherwise excellent referee led to Broad Plain scoring to take the lead again. No heads dropped as Minch looked to level again. A long clearing kick and an offside at the resulting ruck gave Broad Plain an easy 3 points to extend their lead to 10, 34-24 after 66 mins. A determined Minch continued to play an expansive game pushing hard to close the gap. A clean turnover at the breakdown let the home side run clear and score their sixth try (41- 24 on 70 mins). But Minch again responded forcing mistakes at a line out and pushed the home side back to their try line. The resulting kick missing touch, 5 more strong phases got the skipper his second. Two tired sides tried their best to continue the expansive game, but neither really gaining much. A midfield penalty gave Minch a chance to add to the try bonus point, with a the losing point as well. The kick was coolly slotted by No 10 Jake Muskett. The final result of 41-34 reflected an exciting game that either side could of won, a fine performance by all.
