Saturday 21st November saw the presentation of cheques to the nominated charities from the Danny Simpson Memorial day held at Mitcham Rugby Club on October 4th 2009. Following on from the success of the day back in October where the whole of the Rugby Club got together and worked tirelessly to make the day what it was, the club generated another huge gathering. The day started with the 2nd & 3rd teams playing their respective matches and was swiftly followed by the presentation of the cheques.

The Mayor of Croydon was joined by Mitcham RUFC President Mike Kelly, Chairman Peter Hegarty, Bob and Debbie Simpson and Alex and Brendan (members of the same regiment as Danny who were both badly injured in the same incident that took Danny's life) to present representatives from each of the nominated charities; Help for Heroes, 2nd Battalion the Rifles and Afghan Mums, with cheques totalling £10,632.33.

The presentation was followed by the England v All Blacks game on the big screen. The day was thoroughly enjoyed by all and drew to an end an incredible 7 weeks in the history of Mitcham RUFC.

Mitcham RUFC will never forget Danny as they will organise a yearly 7's tournament in his honour. We must also take a moment to thank his family for giving us the opportunity to host these recent events as well as reflect on what a magnificent job Mitcham RUFC has done. We were proud to host this event and Danny's family are very proud of everything we have achieved.
