The 1st team slipped up at llangollen and lose top spot but The Reserves defeat Brymbo to remain unbeaten.

An injury ravaged 1st team travelled to Llangollen trying to halt their recent slide in results but failed to take charge of the game and played out an uninspiring goalless first half. Without a number of key players The Alex went one down to a penalty early in the second half but responded quickly with a well taken goal from Chris Sheehan. Both teams had and missed chances in an open second period but the match was settled with almost the last kick of the game when Llangollen scrambled the ball home from a corner.
With Rhydymwyn winning at Overton The Alex slip from top spot and need a big improvement in form and results over the final few weeks to keep in the top 3. Manager Dave Abraham said “ I am extremely disappointed with the level of performance over the past few weeks, we have lost or drawn with teams that we should be beating to stay on top. I expect a big improvement starting next week!”

At Alyn Park the Reserves maintained their unbeaten season with a win over close rivals Brymbo. The Alex were ahead after 20mins as Damon Griffiths smashed home from 7 yards, allegedly his first goal in 7 years!. Phil Coburn was tormenting the Brymbo left back with his speed and skill and put over some excellent crosses that could have seen Mold extend their lead but the half finished 1 nil.
Early in the second half Phil Coburn put the home team further ahead heading in a free kick from Tom Lupton. 5 mins later the same combination put The Alex 3 up as Lupton’s shot hit the post and Coburn was on hand to tuck it away for his second of the afternoon.Coburn was in the limelight again only minutes later as he was red carded following a scuffle following yet more rough treatment at the hands of the Brymbo defence.
With Mold down to 10 men Brymbo pushed forward and got on the scoresheet as a wayward shot deflected off Jack Cox into his own goal. Brymbo got another before the end as a cross/shot eluded Adam Davies in the Mold goal to bring the score back to 3-2. The Alex held firm and ran out worthy winners to keep their ‘Invincibles’ season on track.
Manager Mark Williams remarked “ I’m pleased with the lads, this was a real test for them and they came through it with flying colours. We go into next weekend’s final league match confident that we can stay unbeaten and then we look forward to the league cup.”
