An awayday in Conway lifts The Alex to 9th place in the Huws Gray Alliance following a battling 0-1 victory as The Alex Reserves win 4-2 at Alyn Park

All credit to Conway for lifting the entry charge for todays match, to give those coming to watch an early Christmas present, but the result wasn't what the locals wanted from their team.
Mold and Conway have both been on a good runs recently but it was Mold that started the stronger. In the first minute Paul Lindfield was almost free on goal but some good defending stopped him getting his shot away. However it was only minutes later that the Mold management team, players and supporters were celebrating when Alex Ahmed put a pinpoint free kick into the penalty box for Danny Dalton to 'ghost' in to meet the ball and put it past the helpless home keeper.
Mold were dominant and Haydn Cooper was next to test the Conway goal only for the keeper to save. The Mold penalty area was rarely challenged as Mold continued to play a confident attacking game and on 22 mins they were very close to being 2 up as Cooper played Lewis Buckley in behind the home defence. Buckley used his skill and strength to get free of the retreating defenders but unfortunately with just the keeper to beat the normally reliable striker put his effort wide of the goal.
Paul Lindfield and Lewis Buckley had further good efforts on goal before half time but the score remained 0-1 to The Alex as the sides went in for the break.
The second half proved to be a different affair with Conway dominating possession and territory for long periods but the Mold defence stayed strong, as they and their team mates worked their socks off to keep hold of the slender lead.
However, In the few raids into the Conway box both Cooper and Buckley kept the home defence worried but their efforts were confidently dealt with by the 'keeper.
Despite all of their pressure Conway failed to seriously test John Burns in the Mold goal until the 86th minute. A wonderful strike from the edge of the Mold box was dipping under the crossbar until John Burns pulled off a tremendous save, tipping the ball over to keep his side in the lead going into the last few minutes.
Manager Sean Rogers' young side then showed great maturity as they killed off the last few minutes to gain a hard fought but well deserved victory.
With Flint not playing and the victory over Conway, The Alex leapfrogged both teams into 9th place.
After the match Manager Sean Rogers said "The lads were superb today, a brilliant first half attacking display, followed by an equally brilliant rearguard performance in the second. I am so proud of all of the players in the squad, today we were without a number of players that have been regular first picks but the lads pushing them for starts came in today and really did themselves and the club proud. We still have a lot to do to make sure we meet our first aim, to stay in the league, so we won't get carried away but we will certainly enjoy Christmas a little more after this win"

The next game for The Alex comes between Christmas and New Year when Denbigh come to Alyn Park for a 2pm KO.
So please come down and give the lads your support

At Alyn Park today The Alex Reserves saw off the challenge from Hawarden Rangers Reserves with a 4-2 victory.
The Alex Reserves were 1 up at the break and then 2-0 up shortly after. However, Hawarden grabbed a goal of their own to make it 2-1 only to see Mold get a third and then a fourth. Hawarden got another to bring it back to 4-2 but Mold, who really should have scored several more, saw the game out to take the 3 points. The win lifts The Alex Reserves back up into 2nd place in the WNL reserves Division going into the Christmas and New Year break.

There was no game scheduled for The Alex Colts so they also go into the break in second position in the WNL Reserve and Colts division.

Games for the WNL are scheduled to restart on 10th January 2015 but keep an eye on the website for any changes.

Merry Christmas and a happy New Year to one and all from all at Mold Alexandra Football Club
