League Cup Progress For The Alex
Mold Progress At The Expense Of Chirk
(Match Report Courtersy Of Chirk AAA)
10 man Mold staged a dramatic late comeback to overturn a 3-1 deficit, finally running out 4-3 winners against Chirk at Holyhead Road this afternoon.
It was certainly an entertaining game with Chirk racing into a 2 goal lead courtesy of a brace from last seasons leading scorer Matty Thomas. However Mold always looked dangerous and were unlucky just before the break when they struck the post with Zac Bebbington beaten.
Keiran Gaul pulled a goal back for Mold on the hour before Chirk keeper Zac Bebbington pulled off a terrific penalty save to keep The Colliers ahead. Mold were pressing for an equaliser but Chirk broke away and scored a third through Nathan Jones.
Mold then had defender Peter Martin sent off for a second yellow and their chances seemed to have disappeared!
However the sending off had the opposite effect and they came at Chirk with all guns blazing and with 15 minutes remaining it was 3-2 thanks to Mold's Aled Reece. With just 5 minutes remaining on the clock substitute Danny Warren deservedly made it all square to set up a dramatic finish.
At this point there only seemed one winner with Chirk alarmingly collapsing and so it proved thanks to man of the match, Callum Freeman, who beat 5 Chirk defenders before shooting past Bebbington to put The Alex through to the next round.
