Mold Hit High And Low
Crucial Decisions Cost Mold Dear.....
Mold got off to a perfect start through Jordan Stafford from the penalty spot after Rhys Nash was brought down in the penalty area on the bye line. Conwy were immediately back at the Alex and Alex Titchiner went close but his shot went over the cross bar as he failed to make true contract with the ball. It was a miss that Mold punished them for as a long throw from Mathew Lewis was headed on by Matty Hughes and met at the back post by Rhys Nash who headed past the keeper. On 13 minutes, Mold were unsettled by the forced substitution of centre half Alex Weatherby who went off injured, to be replaced by Cal Lavelle. Conwy's Titchiner then received a yellow card for kicking the ball away on 20 minutes before Mold's Ant Williams hit the Conwy cross bar with a sweet shot from 20 yards. Just after the half hour mark Mold went close again after Nash met Owen Davies cross but Nash couldn't quite keep his header on target. He made up for it five minutes later however after latching on to Ant's through ball and firing low into the bottom left corner to put the home side 3 up and in the driving seat. Conwy responded again and forced Mold keeper Leigh Williams to pull off the save of the game to deny Conwy, palming the shot onto the post and away.
Conwy were transformed after half time and so were Mold but not in a good way. They seemed to lose their grip on the game and allowed Conwy to claw their way back. Conwy sub Daniel Cross went close on 51 minutes but his shot from the edge of the box went just over. Rhys Nash then responded for Mold curling a shot from distance which dipped just over the cross bar. Conwy went straight down the other end and Tom Quinn was denied from point blank range by more heroics from Leigh who blocked the shot, conceding the corner. The corner swung in and was met by Neil Harvey who headed just over. Three minutes later Matty Lewis was on hand with a last gasp interception to deny Joe Chaplin from 3 yards out!! Jordan Stafford then earned himself a yellow for kicking the ball away after racing through to fire the ball home, only to have been judged offside by the linesman, the only person in the ground who did think it was offside. On 71 minutes Leigh Williams was harshly judged to have brought ddown Neil Harvey who was now playing centre half and sub Mark Buchan dispatched the spot kick. Six minutes later Conwy were awarded a free kick for nothing and the ball fell to Steve Foster after Mold failed to clear the danger and he fired home from 3 yards. By now it was all Conwy and Mold just needed to hang on. The clock ticked down and reached 90 minutes, when the Mold supporters expected to hear the final whistle but in a half with no stoppages, the referee decided that there should be 3 extra minutes!! And so the inevitable happened, the linesman decided that Conwy's Steve Foster had sprung the Mold Alex offside trap even though he was 3 yards offside and Foster calmly finished to salvage a point for Conwy.
