Celebrities and Community show support

AFC Monton hosted a charity game at their home ground, New Alder Park, Winton in aid of the Alan Henning Fund with all the proceeds going to his children Adam and Lucy.
many celebrities including Coronation Street`s Andy Whyment and Alan Halsall, Emmerdales Chris Bisson, The Royle Family`s Ralf Little and ex Sunderland professional Michael Gray gave up their time in support of the event.
An Attendance of over 500 people watched the celebrities beat an AFC Monton select over 50`s XI 8-1, but the result did not matter on the day as it was all about bringing the community together to raise funds for the children.
Salford Mayor Ian Stewart in presenting the trophy to the winners said he would like to thank all the celebrities and AFC Monton for making this all happen, but most of all to the community of Eccles in showing their support for the Henning Family.
Paul Donegan, a Director of AFC Monton thanked all the people connected with the Club who helped on the day and said " We are the oldest amateur football club in Eccles and very much a part of the community. We wanted to satnd up in support of the Family and today shows how local football can help bring the community together after such tragic events. "
The event managed to raise a total of £2187.34 for the Family.
