success for S1/2, U16 and U18.

Montrose Junior Rugby had a very successful weekend with victories at all ages.

On Saturday, Montrose U18 played host to Strathmore. This fixture was scheduled to be played in Forfar but the Strathmore pitch was unplayable so the venue was switched. After lending Strathmore some players , Montrose played a fast and direct pattern of play, resulting in early scores. By half time, the result wasn’t in doubt and there were some changes to positions in the side. The Montrose team stuck to their game plan and, in the end, it was a very convincing win for Montrose. Man of the match, chosen by Strathmore, was the Montrose Hooker, Liam Hardie.

The Micros and Minis all travelled to Carnoustie to take on other Angus clubs. The Montrose boys and girls showed the usual enthusiasm and skills to score many tries and make their coaches proud.

The S1/2s were also at Carnoustie to take on a the hosts and a combined Brechin, Arbroath and Strathmore side. In the first game against Carnoustie, the Montrose players were a bit slow to start and let in two tries. This was enough to jolt the team and, after a couple of changes, the Montrose team started to play excellent, attacking rugby and broke down the Carnoustie defence to score three tries and win. In their second game, against the combined side, the Montrose players carried on as they had left off. They opened the first half with an excellently worked try and this was followed by five more , unanswered by the Brechin, Arbroath and Strathmore team. Man of the matches was Lewis Wood , Montrose full back.

On Sunday, Grangemouth made the long trip north to take on Montrose in the Midlands U16 Development League. Similar to the U18s the previous day Montrose lent Grangemouth some players , From the start the squad demonstrated an expansive game with strong support from backs and forwards. The Montrose defence was strong throughout, only allowing Grangemouth one try in the whole game. When the final whistle blew, Montrose had scored nine tries; an excellent result and a clear demonstration of the hard work put in by the squad through the first half of the season. Man of the match was the Montrose Number 8, Lewis Hill.
