Rams v House
The MRUFC Premier one side put a sound performance out at home against last years beaten finalists, Power House.
The Rams team were composed and accurate throughout the performance and played with a greater level of discipline than that shown in the first round.
Discipline and accuracy are both key words for the team this year. Poor discipline will cost you both opportunities and points at this level of rugby, something that the team cannot afford. High levels of accuracy in everything we do as a team will ensure we retain possession and build pressure on opposition teams.
Saturdays performance was a good example of the depth developing across all grades at the club with Wes and Dave both making their debuts for the premir team. Wes performance was particuarly pleasing and was close to being rewarded with a try on debut. Dave came of the bench late in the game and continued with the fine work he has been putting in for the seconds, a great example of a player proving his ability in the second grade and taking his well deserved opportunity when it comes. As the coaches have said all year, train hard and perform well and opportunities will come in first grade.
Player of the day was Nathaniel for his performance leading a dominant forward pack. Choosing a player of the day was particuarly hard given the level of performance across the board. Our lineout accuracy improved as did our kick offs - both offensivly and defensivly. Scrum time was again strong, as it was last week, with a major difference being that we came out better with the referee - again, this is a direct result of a more disciplined performance.
Overall the teams performance was a result of the hard work put in through the week at training. As the saying goes, hard work will always beat talent when talent doesnt work hard.
Thanks to the support we received from all at the ground, particuarly past players, current players, members and family and friends. It gives the team a real lift having that support as we look to build Keys Rd as a fortress for opposition teams. Thanks also to the ladies in the canteen and the guys behind the bar as well as all others involved on gsme day. It was great to see the number of people in the club rooms after the game, long may this continue.
