ROVERS FINISH ON A HIGH
We entertained Brackley on a thrice postponed match for our last league match of the season on what was a heavy pitch after the recent heavy rains.
The boys were instructed to pass the ball out wide to avoid the heaviest part of the pitch and that we did.
Both teams played some good expansive football with both wingers Adam and Dom Wheway were receiving plenty of the ball and creating problems.
The deadlock was broken after 24 minutes when Adam broke down the left wing and crossed the ball across the area where Alex was running in and fired a well struck shot in from 15 yards to put us deservedly in front.
The back 4 of Sean, Chris,Joe and Dan were holding Brackley well.
Our lead doubled after 38 minutes when a rolling ball came out of defence and found Dan running onto it and to the players cries of "hit it Dan" fired in a tremendous shot high into the net for his first of the season and what could well be the goal of the season, the half ended and we were 2-0 to the good.
Praising the boys for the first half display we told them to perform for the next 40 mins, but Brackley came on strong and the lead was reduced after 44 minutes.
We were now under pressure, Toby made a fine close in reaction save to deny an equaliser however after 65 minutes a long ball over the defence found the Brackley attacker running through and just beat Toby to the ball and lobbed over him to equalise.
From this we now moved forward more readily, Adam rounded the keeper but could not finish and Gregs overhead kick beat the keeper but was cleared off the line.
The winner came after 77 minutes when Ali found the ball at his feet 20 yards out and his shot arced over the keeper and settled in the net.
The game and season rounded off by a good game by both sides and a much better Rovers performance to finish on.
Well done boys good season accumulating 30 points our most ever and 6th place in the table.
