A once-in-as-lifetime event occurred this morning (25th June 2012) as the Olympic Torch passed by Morley Cricket Club. Large crowds flocked to Scatcherd Lane as the torch made its way along the road and was passed to Club honorary member Simon Brown outside the Club gates. It was a great occasion for all concerned with many realising this was a lifetime event that caused a tear the corner of more than a few eyes.
The Club joined in the spirit by providing bacon and sausage butties for all the early risers and there were rides for the children and an appearance by the Bruntcliffe School Band. Morley CC had its usual band of helpers and special thanks go out Lee and Jaydene Jagger, Janet Dowse, Val Cousens, Julie Fox, Graham Austin, Bernadette and John Nebard, Teresa Bickerdyke, Collette Rossington, Alan Butler and Ryan and Matty Dowse. Once again, a fantastic effort by all concerned and a never to be forgotten occasion at Morley CC.
Committee member Lee Jagger, commented "I've never seen as many people at the club or in the streets. It was one of those every one to the pumps sort of days again. Amazing work from everyone, absolutley brilliant, made me proud to be part of the club!"
