Report of the match from the Bridlington web site

Fair report from the Bridlington web site.

I assume the reporter was unsighted for the Brad Freeman try when he said it was "wheeled".
Morley simply pushed the Bridlington pack backwards over the line.
The front row of Wall, Percival and Percival can be seen standing parallel to the try line having destroyed the opposition front row. (See photograph)
The amount of wheeling which the Bridlington pack did on the Morley put in was a major topic of conversation between the Morley coaches and the referee after the match.

Bridlington Vs Morley - 10/02/19. 21-29

Bridlington hosted Morley on Saturday, with strong winds diagonally blowing across the pitch, making it difficult for both sides. Morley got a flying start with 2 unanswered tries, before Bridlington responded with a converted try of their own. The second half however belonged to Bridlington, running in a couple of tries as they chased the game, time once again ran out for the home side as they tried in vain to fight back for a losing bonus point.

The Morley backs ran at the home side from the start, linking with hooker Jacob Percival who release winger Karl Bradshaw to score an unconverted try after only 2 minutes of play. The wind was so strong that Mark Chester’s attempt at goal didn’t even reach the try line.

The two sides settled down after this early try, with each side having a losing opportunities to score, Morley however began to get more and more phases linked together, pushing the home side back towards their own goal line. Then 22 minutes into the game Bradshaw was once again on the score sheet, with timely passing from the centres he was through into space, racing in for his second try, Chester was again unable to convert.

Not long after this, there was a long delay as Centre Harvey Morrison received treatment on the field for a suspected dislocated shoulder. Bridlington picked themselves up from this and ran in a try from half way, slick handling by both forwards and backs, saw Captain Josh Thundercliffe score a try by the posts, which Sam Wragg converted, bringing the score to 7 – 10 and so putting Bridlington back into the fight.

Morley came back strong from the restart, strong running by the two centres, offloading well, giving hooker Jacob Percival a bit of space, he still had a lot to do and managed to drive over for a great try. Morley continued to press from the restart, and it wasn’t long before Centre Andrew Ellis was able to score a try, this time Chester was able to convert, as the whistle blew for half time.

Morley took only 5 minutes to increase their score from a 5 meter scrum, which was wheeled, flanker Bradley Freeman seized his chance and dived on the ball for a try, Chester converted, taking the score to 29 – 7

The home side dug deep, and began to enjoy more and more ball, with which they were able to string phases together, then when they were close to the line Martin Robinson threw a cheeky dummy to put himself through a gap to score, Wragg converted again.

Bridlington’s Wesley Langkilde was sin binned for a late tackle which looked more like a stumble into contact than an actual tackle, the home side dug deep being a man down, as Morley tried to seize they upper hand, Bridlington however were able to defence this period of time well without conceding any further points. In fact they started to gain the upper hand, out playing the visitors, and were unlucky not to increase the score line. That is until after Langkilde had returned to the field, making up for his yellow card with a try, driving over the line from short range to score. Wragg once again converted, to put the home side within 8 points.

The home side continued to dominate, but unfortunately were unable to increase the score line to get the elusive losing bonus point.

This week Bridlington have to endure the long trip to Morpeth who sit second in the table, this will be a very difficult encounter, to come away with any points. Let’s hope that they journey doesn’t affect them too much, if they can play like they did in the second half on Saturday, anything is possible.

The next home game will be on 2nd March against Percy Park who are currently in seventh position in the table.
