Ripon provide a tougher challenge
Great day to see some wonderful rugby
Morley and Ripon have played against each other since the early days with the performances and results see sawing over the years.
Morley have been focusing on several areas within training and the boys knew today was the time to try and put practice into the game and they did exactly that.
There were many positives from the 10 tries, from 7 different players. We had break away tries, we had great interplay to beat the defence, we had a driving maul try, we had props on the wing, it was all on show.
As always our defence was great, Ripon surely had their chances after Morley's lack of discipline made the penalty count rack up against them. We do need to learn to play the referee and keep the penalties down.
On another day with another team, I'm sure Ripon would have been able to convert their opportunities, they showed strength in the tackle, commitment in the ruck and a desire to move the ball wide at every opportunity.
The question of 'was it poor execution or pressure from the opposition' is there, however, Morley's speed of thought at the defensive breakdown and organisation around the contact area ensured risks had to be taken by Ripon and those were pounced on by the lads.
The backs were lively, the decision making was good (80/20) and they played the opposition in front of them very well. Attack had structure and creativity and we played with ball in hand very well, exposing the Ripon fullback to a try saving tackle on several occasions.
The forwards set piece was superb, with not a chink in the armour. A real pack mentality is building with the boys.
Support play today was key and the offloading under pressure and in the tackle allowed the gaps to open up, a big well done there too boys.
Overall it was a promising performance with improvements in several key areas today.
Lets get into training to help us improve in the small things...
Thanks to the parents for your support and help on the side lines..
