Morley ground out a hard fought win at Pocklington last Saturday to keep the pressure on second placed Wheatley Hills in North One East.

The first half was poor from a spectators view with too many mistakes from both sides. Morley conceded four penalties in the opening three minutes but Pocklington’s scrum-half Jack Fletcher deputising for regular kicker Nick Bennet, was unable to land a goal.
The Maroons then launched their first attack Karl Bradshaw collected a pass from Steven Costello and broke from Morley’s ten metre line, Scott Hayes carried on up the left wing before passing inside to Mark Chester and his cross field kick found Kobi Gyasi on the right wing. He evaded a tackler sprinted down the wing out stripping the covering defence to score in the corner, Simon Bradshaw was unable to land the touch line conversion.
Pocklington missed another penalty chance but drew level soon afterwards when Morley knocked on, And Dan Wilson ran through a couple of half hearted tackles to score but the simple conversion was missed.
Simon Bradshaw edged Morley back in front with a penalty when Pocklington were adjudged offside. Soon afterwards Jack Holborough intercepted a pass and went over unopposed for the home side, but the conversion was missed and at half time Pocklington lead 10-8.
Morley hit back with a 49th minute try when Tom Moody took a quick lineout and Steven Costello crossed for an unconverted score. Morley began to control things and another Chester cross kick just eluded Gyasi and went into touch.
However Peter Dadswell stole the Pocklington line out and quick hands from replacement scrum half Mark Cooke saw Simon Bradshaw receive the ball, he rounded a defender and sprinted down the left wing to score Morley’s third try and put them 18-10 ahead.
Holborough made a great break and when the Maroons were penalised for not releasing the attacked Pocklington pulled three points back with a penalty.
Morley lost an attacking line out but Moody charged down Drew’s attempted clearance, he followed up and gathered the ball to go over and score Morley’s bonus point try, Simon Bradshaw added the touchline conversion and Morley lead 25-13.
It proved to be a crucial score as from the last play of the game Pocklington’s replacement winger Richard Skowronekslip broke down the right and produced a lovely pass inside for Dan Wilson to go over and score. Fletcher added the conversion but Morley had done enough to seal an important win.
