Morpeth Stunned By Late Leveller
Morpeth 4ths travelled to Gateshead in what turned out to be a hard fought contest in monsoon conditions
From the start Morpeth were quick off the blocks, the team was set up to score goals with a three pronged attack. This worked and within 5 minutes, good movement down the right hand side, allowed Ben Taylor to cross the ball into the D. The ball eluded M.Bott's stick but he was putting enough pressure on the defender who turned the ball into his own net.
The game was scrappy in midfield with neither team dominating. Morpeth created the better chances to add to the tally, the keeper making a top drawer save from M.Bott's high flick.
When Bradley Swan recieved the ball on the half way line, there seemed little danger to Gateshead, but he ran towards the oppositions goal, skillfully beating 3 players before calmly slotting the ball under the advancing Goalkeeper. 2-0 to Morpeth at half time.
It was important that Morpeth started the 2nd half in the correct manner, unfortunately they didnt and conceded a goal within seconds of the restart.
Gateshead now had the momentum and they started to create chances and Morpeth struggled to get the ball out of their half. Gateshead were awarded a penalty flick, but luckily Paul Finch was in top form and he saved it.
Gateshead fell to a sucker punch, a quick break down Morpeth's left resulted in Bradley Swan crossing the ball for Ben Taylor to stroke the ball home.
To there credit Gateshead never stopped pressing and the pressure allowed them to score another goal.
Morpeth, tried to see out the final few minutes and it looked like they would secure all 3 points until a wonder goal in the last few seconds from Gateshead's best player.
3-3 was the final score
