The 1st XI took a break from their Premier League campaign and made the trip to North Dublin on Saturday to take on Clontarf HC in Round 2 of the Irish Senior Cup.
A bright start by Mossley saw them come close to opening the scoring with good work up front by Ross McIvor, Jordan Robinson and Ryan Lyall calling the Clontarf keeper into action. Unfortunately for the Newtownabbey side the tide soon turned as Clontarf battled their way into the tie and started to test the Mossley defence. Their efforts were rewarded late in the first half with two goals in quick succession which left Mossley playing catch up in the second half.
Some poor discipline by the home side at the start of the second half saw Mossley push hard for an opener but weren't able to make the most of their brief advantage. Clontarf put the game out of sight with a swift attack and deflected finish which left Owen Doole in the Mossley goal with no chance. Mossley did create some opportunities with Jordan Robinson hitting the post and Rory Laverty's effort had to be scrambled off the line. Chasing the match, Mossley left themselves open to the counter and Clontarf took full advantage and extended their lead to 4-0 by the final whistle.
Elsewhere the 3rd XI took on Northern Ireland Civil Service 3rd XI and lost out 3-1 with the goal coming from skipper Mark Lee. The 4th XI picked up the only win of the day hosting Kilkeel 3rd XI, notching up a 3-1 win with goals from Joe Wray, Ricky Lee and Louis Legret. The 5th XI traveled to take on Banbridge 4th XI on Friday and fell to a 7-1 defeat with Niall Darrah scoring.
